Stunning Edwardian silver cigar/cigarette box; of rectangular form with superb hinged lid and plain thumbpiece. The sides are plain and the base is leather covered, the lid has the most wonderful engraved "shooting scene" decoration in the style of the period. The size is huge, the condition perfect, the interior is cedarwood lined with removable adjustable dividers; there is doubtless a strengthening plate in the base between the cedarwood lining and the leather on the base, this is normal. The quality is of the finest, the gauge of silver heavy, which would be expected from this maker. The box is so well made that the lid is still absolutely airtight (keeping the contents at their freshest) even after over120 years of use. The scene on the lid can only be described as "glorious!" Please study the photographs. The sheer weight of this piece is a testament to it's quality. London. 1902. John Bodman Carrington/ Carrington & Co. Regent St. London. Length 24cm Weight (in total) 61 troy oz/1897gm Allowing for the cedarwood lining and the baseplate, the silver weight will be around 40 troy oz/1244 gm at least.
