Description
Top class Edwardian Britannia Standard silver jug, in accurate and faithful Queen Anne style. This fine hand-hammered lidded jug is made of Britannia Standard silver (a higher grade than even our current purity of 925 parts in 1000,) as used in the Queen Anne period; an original piece would have been used for any one of a number of purposes, water, beer, wine and even for hot water used with a shaving bowl, The maker of this piece, Henry Bourne, was a fine silversmith who made superb quality copies of fine antique silver, and also items of the Arts & Crafts movement of his period; his skill in hand-hammering is evident (and necessary) in both disciplines! A fine piece of silver.
